Red Hot 4v4 Round-up Tournament Rules 2018

Tournament Rules FIFA RULES APPLY IF NOT MODIFIED WITHIN.

PLAYER REGISTRATION:  A Team Roster & Waiver/Release form must be completed and signed by parents/guardians of all participating players. The roster will be verified and approved by the event director when a valid official outdoor roster and/or proof of age is uploaded. Teams must have a copy of their roster at all games.  All players should have proof of age (i.e. birth certificate, driver’s license, or passport) and be prepared to provide it to any tournament official should age come into question. Any player found to have falsified age will be dismissed from the tournament. Youth players may only play on one team in the tournament in an age group.

NUMBER OF PLAYERS: A team may consist of a maximum of eight (8) players. Four players will be on the field at a time. There are no goalkeepers in 4v4. No changes may be made to the roster after registration check-in. Any exceptions must be approved by the Tournament Director.

TEAM UNIFORMS: Each team must have unique numbered jerseys.  All players must wear like jerseys during play.  Pennies may be used over the jersey to resolve color conflicts. Violators will be removed from the field and not allowed back on the field of play until player equipment is corrected.  Home Team is team listed first on schedule. Home Team will change jerseys (or wear pennies) if there is a color conflict.  Shin Guards are mandatory

TEAM NAMES: Be sure to distinguish each teams name when forming multiple teams from a larger roster.  For example: Liverpool team 1, Liverpool team blue, or Strikers black, Strikers red-Coach Smith.  

GAME RULES:

  • GAME DURATION: Teams must report to their scheduled field 15 minutes prior to game-time. A team will forfeit the game if not ready to play at the scheduled time, at the discretion of the referee or Tournament Director. The game consists of two 12-minute halves separated by a two (2) -minute half-time period. OR the first team to reach 12 goals, whichever comes first. Games tied after regulation play shall end in a tie except in the playoffs. The match length may be shortened at the discretion of the tournament director.
  • FIELD SIZE: 5U-10U will play on approximately 30 yd. x 20 yd. fields with small goals - 11U-18U will play on approximately 40 yd. x 30 yd. fields with small goals.
  • GOAL BOX / DEAD ZONE RULE: There is no ball contact allowed within the goal box. However, any player may pass through the goal box. If the ball comes to rest in the goal box, a goal kick is awarded to the team defending that goal regardless of who touched the ball last. Any part of the ball or player's body on the line is considered in the goal box and is an extension of such. If a defender touches the ball in the goal box, a penalty kick is awarded to the offensive team. If an offensive player touches the ball within the goal box, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team.        
  • PENALTY KICKS: A penalty kick will be taken from midfield anywhere within the circle in front of an open goal. All non-kicking players must be behind midfield and outside the middle circle. A penalty kick shall be awarded if, in the referee’s opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by an infraction (the infraction does not automatically result in a red card). This is a dead-ball kick. If a goal is not scored, the defense obtains possession with a goal kick.
  • PLAYER SUBSTITUTIONS: Substitutions may be made at any dead-ball situation, regardless of possession. Except for free kicks and penalty kicks.  Teams must get the referee’s permission before making the substitution and players are to enter and exit at midfield. There are no substitutions on the fly.
  • GOAL SCORING: A goal can only be scored from the offensive side of the field. Meaning the ball must be at or past the midfield line into the side of the field you are scoring on for the goal to count.  If a team scores a goal from the side of the field in which they are defending, a kick in will be given to the other team at midfield.  The ball changes possession after a goal is scored and is restarted from midfield.
  • RESTARTS: All restarts are indirect kicks (including the kickoff to start each half). This does not include penalty kicks or drop balls, which are direct.
  • KICKOFF: All kickoffs are indirect kicks taken from midfield and may be taken in any direction.
  • FIVE (5) YARD RULE: In all dead ball situations, restarts, including game start and halftime start, defending players must stand at least five (5) yards away from the ball. If the defensive player’s goal area is closer than five (5) yards, the ball shall be placed five (5) yards from the goal area in line with the place of the penalty.
  • THROW-INS: There are no throw-ins. All out of bounds balls will be taken as "kick-ins."
  • KICK-INS: The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline instead of thrown in. The defending player must be at least three (3) yards from ball on all kick-ins. All kick-ins are indirect.
  • GOAL KICKS: May be taken from any point on the defensive touchline. Goal kicks are indirect.
  • INDIRECT KICKS:  On an indirect kick, a goal can be scored only if the ball subsequently touches another player before it enters the goal. If the kick directly enters the opponents’ goal, a goal kick is awarded.  If the kick directly enters the team’s own goal, a corner kick is awarded to the opposing team. 
  • OFF-SIDES: There is no off-sides in 4v4 soccer
  • SLIDE TACKLING: There is no slide tackling in 4v4 soccer.  Slide tackling is an automatic yellow card and is indirect kick from the spot of the foul. No contact can be made with the opposing players while sliding for the ball.  

 

PLAYOFF OVERTIME: If after regulation time a match is tied, the teams will compete in a 5-minute sudden death "golden goal" overtime period.  A coin toss will decide the kick-off and direction. The first team to score in overtime is the winner. If no team has scored in the first five-minute overtime period, the teams will compete in a sudden death penalty kick shootout.  The four players from each team that were on the field at the end of the final golden goal period will alternate taking the penalty kicks. The team that has scored the most penalty kicks at the end of the first round wins. If it is still tied at the end of the first round, the same players will rotate in a sudden death penalty kick from the mid-line until a winner is decided.

SCORING: Both teams are responsible for reporting the score to the registration tent! Scorecards will be provided by the referees.  A goal may only be scored from a touch within a team’s offensive half of the field. If a goal is scored from the defending half of the field, a goal kick is awarded to the opposing team. Games will be scored according to the following: six (6) points for a win; three (3) points for a tie, zero (0) points for a loss, one (1) point for a shut out; one (1) point for each goal scored up to. 

TIEBREAKERS: In pool play, ties between two or more teams will be broken by: 1) head to head results between teams, 2) goal differential, 3) goals scored, 4) goals against, 5) penalty kicks from the mid-line. Note; only 5 goals max will be counted towards goal differential.

EJECTIONS: Referees have the right to eject a player, coach, or parent from the game. If a player on the field is ejected, the team must complete the game with three players on the field. If 2 or more players are ejected from a team, that team will forfeit the game.  If both teams have 2 or more players ejected the game will end as is.  Substitutions may still take place, but the offending team may only have three players on the field at any one time. Players, coaches, or parents whom are ejected by the referee must leave the field and area around the field. The game will not restart until the opposing player, coach, or parent has been removed, yet the game clock will continue. If a player, coach, or parent refuses to leave, the game may be forfeited in favor of the opposing team. All referee decisions are final. GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP must be used by players, coaches, and spectators at all times. Abuse of the referees and event staff will not be tolerated and could warrant disqualification of the offending person and team from the tournament.

PROTESTS: No protests are allowed. All referee decisions are final.

WEATHER RELATED ISSUES:   Tournament Director reserves the right to modify, reschedule, or cancel the tournament due to inclement weather. The Tournament Director has the right to move or reschedule games, as well as the right to shorten game time. In case of bad weather, check the website and you will be notified by email and text. If the tournament is cancelled in the case of inclement weather then the tournament may retain a maximum of 50% of the entry fee.
